Today I made a spicy edamame dish that feels like a little kitchen shortcut.
Serve plain salted edamame for kids, then toss another batch in garlic and chili oil for adults. Same base ingredient, two totally different moods.

This idea seems pretty popular on Japanese recipe sites — and once you try it, it makes total sense.
Ingredients
100 g edamame (fresh or frozen, pods on)
2–3 cloves garlic, minced (or as much as you like)
1 dried red chili, sliced
1 Tbsp olive oil
Black pepper (optional)
Instructions
(1) Cook the edamame.
Boil fresh edamame in salted water until tender.
If using frozen edamame, prepare according to the package instructions.
(2) Heat olive oil in a frying pan over low heat.
Add garlic and chili, and cook gently until fragrant.
(3) Add the edamame and toss to coat with the oil.
Season with black pepper if you like.

Serve hot and eat with your hands.
A little messy, but somehow the best kind of snack.
